BIWS, RSW, MSW Student

Working with children and youth ages 5-16

Hello! My name is Mercedes and I have my Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work degree from the First Nations University of Canada and am currently a Master of Social Work student at the University of Regina. I have 5+ years of experience supporting children, youth, and families in the Saskatoon community. My areas of experience include but is not limited to:

o Navigating family separation

o Emotional regulation

o Stress and overwhelm

o Burnout and self-care

o Boundaries

o Social dynamics

o ADHD

o Conflict resolution and decision-making

o Anxiety

o Communication

o Identity development

o Parent/caregiver support

o Childhood trauma and abuse

o Attachment

I use an inclusive practice model that incorporates Indigenous frameworks, holistic practices, and trauma-informed approaches. I use an integrative approach, tailoring strategies to the unique needs of each community member and family through play-based interventions, the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency Model and mindfulness practices that focus on family systems. My approach is rooted in supporting children, youth, and families through strengths-based and person-centred approaches.

In the warmer months, I enjoy reading in the sun and spending time outdoors with my husband. During the colder months, you will find me cheering on the San Francisco 49ers, reading in front of the fireplace, or running out of breath during spin classes.
